Eddie's POV

----------------------------

I woke up to my phone playing “High School Never End’s” by Bowling for Soup. I thought it would be a great song to start off my first day as a sophomore in high school. I rolled over and grabbed my phone to turn it off,  but I just sat there listening to the song, not wanting to peel the covers off of me.

“Eddie!” my mother yelled from downstairs. “Consigue tu culo perezoso de la cama! Son las 5:30! Su bus llegue antes de las 6:00!”

(‘Translation: Get your lazy butt out of bed! It's 5:30! Your bus gets here by 6:00!’)

I just giggled, “¡Está bien!”

(‘Translation: All right!”)

This time I quickly got out of bed and grabbed a pair of jeans, a purple t-shirt with a smile on it, socks, and black convers. I put on my glasses and then headed for the bathroom took a shower, brushed my teeth, then got dressed.

“¡Mamá! ¿Sabes dónde está mi gorro fue?” I yelled down the stairs.

(‘Translation: Mom! Do you know where my beanie went?”)

She yelled back,” ¿Cuál? Te juro que tiene cincuenta tipos diferentes!"

(‘Translation: Which one? I swear you have fifty different types!’)

“El verde!”

(‘Translation: The green one!’)

“Es aquí que culo, ahora date prisa antes de quedarse tarde!”

(‘Translation: It's down here you butt, now hurry up before you become late!’)

I laughed then nodded. My mom and I have an unusual relationship, like we’ll call each other names and playfully be mean to each other. So if we ever sound rude to one other, don’t worry, it’s just how we act. Also since I’m originally from Puerto Rico we speak a lot of Spanish around the house.

I ran to my room and grabbed my backpack from my room and ran down the steps. I looked over at the clock and it was 5:55.

“Sh*t!” I blurted out as I grabbed my beanie, “Te quiero mamá, te ve después de la escuela!”

(‘Translation: I love you mom see you after school!’)

“¡Adiós!”

I kissed her on the cheek then made a mad dash to the bus stop as I was trying to put on my beanie. Talk about multitasking. The bus was about to drive off as I caught up to it. Luckily the driver for our bus (Mr.Mo) is nice enough to let kids like me, kids that are running late to get on.

“Good morning Eddie! Slept in?” he said as I walked up the steps to the bus.

“No Mr. Mo, just running late,” I giggled.

“All right, now take a seat before I throw you off the bus,” he joked.

I walked to the back and plopped my backpack into the second to last seat to the right. Since I was one of the first people to get on the bus, I couldn’t talk to anyone. I just put in my earphones and listened to my music playlist as we drove, picking up other students.
